How easy is to build a business!

After you start your business, the challenging nature of the entrepreneurial life starts to hit you. Things go wrong, a lot. You are hit with frustration, confusion, overwhelm.

It’s tempting to wonder, shouldn’t this be easier?

But don’t make the mistake of thinking you’re the only one who’s finding it hard. Or, that it means there’s something wrong with you. Or, that these feelings are a sign of impending failure.

In this video, filmed at the Platinum Mastermind in Curacao, Ed O’Keefe explains that no high performer got to where they are without facing the exact same challenges you’re facing.

Every high performer got to the top by being insanely obsessive about their chosen pursuit. They’d never get there by doing it as a little hobby on the side. Instead, they’d forget about everything else and start living and breathing their endeavor.

They get crystal clear on one, two, or three unique skill sets that will take them to mastery. Everyone’s skill sets are uniquely different. Your job is to find your own, and they are not going to be the same as anyone else’s.

From the outside looking in, it may seem like today’s successful entrepreneurs were swept to success overnight with very little effort. But it’s never that way.

You don’t see it, but everyone who reaches significant success went through the daily grind at one point. They forced themselves to squeeze in the time to focus on their business, even when they were experiencing nothing but failure from it.

Remember, if you keep hitting the wall and feeling frustrated, it’s normal. If you feel overwhelmed and confused, it’s normal. Every other successful entrepreneur who came before you experienced the same things. Don’t make the mistake of thinking it was easier for them than it is for you.

If you’re not convinced, think about athletes. When they are preparing for the Olympics, are they in a state of bliss? Do they show up for their event, having done no training, and hit it out of the park?

Of course not. They train for 12 to 14 hours every day. They are extremely careful about rest and nutrition. They are working hard and going through the grind.

It’s the same for entrepreneurs. 90% of the road is confusion, frustration and overwhelm.

Those feelings are normal. They mean that you’re trying, you’re working hard enough and you’re on the right track.

You might think success in business comes down to a complex set of factors – choosing the right business model, being in the right place at the right time, having the right team, knowing how to market…

Not to imply that any of those factors are not important, but don’t overlook the basics.

Simply by focusing on the basics – taking action, having a positive attitude, being pleasant towards others and remembering why you’re doing this – you will be surprised at how far they can take you.

In this video, filmed at the Titanium Mastermind in Jamaica, Mike Williams reminds you of the simple factors that bring about success.

If you only take one thing away from your training and nothing more, it should be this. Take action. If you don’t take action, it’s for sure that you won’t reach the success you want.

This advice may sound obvious, but so many people don’t follow it. A lot of the time, you will be hesitant because you’re not sure what the right action is, and you run the risk of wasting a lot of time hoping that the answer will eventually come to you.

Accept that sometimes you won’t know what action is the right one. Don’t let this stop you. Any action is better than no action at all. Be willing to make mistakes and the answers will come to you later.

You can’t become successful on your own. You’re always going to work as part of a team – whether it’s your staff, your peers, your mentors or your business partners.

Bob Ladouceur was the coach of the De La Salle High School football team in California. Between 1992 and 2004, under his coaching, the team experienced a winning streak of 151 games without a loss. The unprecedented winning streak was even adapted for a movie.

When interviewed for a business magazine, Bob Ladouceur answered what his team did differently to achieve such a winning streak. They were running the same offence and defence, they didn’t seem to be using any new and creative tactics and their players were even considered small and undersized.

Bob Ladouceur explained his team’s difference. He taught them to simply love each other.

It’s easy to overlook such a simple principle, but it can go a long way. The same is true in business. If you love your team, you will fight harder for them. If you’re focused on only yourself, you are going to fall and bring down your team with you.

Finally, find your motivation. Remember why you got into business to start with, and find what it is that keeps you going through the tough times.

Is it your team? Your retirement? Your family? Find what motivates you, keep it in mind and the rest will sort out itself.

Whatever you do, it has no point if you only do it once.

If you write one blog post and never write another, you won’t build a following. If you spend $500 on an ad and never do another one, you won’t make many sales. If you follow up with your leads once and never again, they’ll forever remain cold leads.

Results will happen in your business only when you take the right actions repeatedly and consistently.

In this video, filmed at the Platinum Mastermind in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, Rene Kamstra talks about the power of consistency.

Rene Kamstra asked one of MOBE’s most successful students what his secret was.

His answer? “My secret is consistency.”

He explained that he writes two blogs a day without fail. People love his content and they read it twice a day. By doing this, he has built a list of 300,000 and has immense influence.

There’s a lot of power in doing the same thing over and over. If you double a penny every day for 30 days, it will reach over $10 million. But miss just one day, and its value will be halved, leaving you with only $5 million. Miss two days and its value will be halved again. Miss 29 days and you’ll be left with just two pennies.

Consistency to the extent of doing something every day is very important.

Stephen Covey said, “Don’t prioritize your schedule. Schedule your priorities.”

In other words, if you don’t prioritize and schedule the thing you want to be consistent about, your other commitments will get in the way. Before you know it, days will have gone by and you’ll have made very little progress.

Rene Kamstra has a calendar that she fills in with different colors. The red blocks are the time that she stops work and leaves some time for herself. However, she also makes sure that she schedules a one-hour block of green every morning. This is the time that she does activities to make money, and she is disciplined about doing it every day.

If you don’t schedule in the green, the red will take over.

Think of your business activities as a wagon that you are riding on. Ignore that voice that tells you, “I don’t feel like doing it…” You’ll just end up falling off the wagon, and once you’ve fallen off, it can be very challenging to get back on again.

Still, as hard as you try to stay on, there will probably be times when you do fall off. In these cases, don’t have an “all or nothing” mindset and give up altogether just because you fell off the wagon once.

The longer you think like this, the further away the wagon will get. Run and catch that wagon and resume your consistency.
