Overcoming the Fear of Failure.. Don’t be Afraid!

We’ve all experienced extreme failure before.

We’ve also heard horror stories of failures that other people have experienced. We’ve heard about the business owner who started a business with high hopes, only to watch it fail and become homeless.

Hearing stories like that can put you off and make you afraid to even try, for fear of what might happen. But you can’t be afraid, because failing is the only way you’ll ever learn.

In this video, filmed at the Titanium Mastermind in the Dominican Republic, Stephen Michael Miller explains why you can’t be afraid to fail.

IS IT OK TO MAKE MISTAKES?

The education system and our upbringing teaches us that making mistakes is bad. As a result, most people approach life from a place of wanting to avoid ever making a single mistake.

As an entrepreneur, you have to let go of this mentality. When you start, you don’t know what you’re doing. You might have an idea and a vision, but you don’t know how the market will respond, you don’t know how to sell, you don’t know how to produce the product and you don’t know how to build a company.

The only way to learn these things is to try a lot of things and see what works. Of course, most of what you try won’t work, and you’ll make a lot of mistakes in the process. You have to be comfortable with that.

THE ONLY WAY TO LEARN

Mark Twain said, “A man who carries a cat by the tail learns something he can learn in no other way.”

Don’t know what he’s referring to? Then try carrying a cat by the tail and see what happens. Here’s a clue: once you do it, you probably won’t ever carry a cat by the tail again.

In other words, the only way you can truly learn a lesson is through your own experience and your own mistakes.

You can go to seminars, read books and watch videos, but the lessons will never truly sink in until you actually try the thing you’re wanting to learn and especially until you get it wrong.

If you want to learn how to advertise on Facebook, you can go to seminars and read books, but nothing will ever take the place of real experience. You’ll learn a lot more when you spend $100, watch it disappear and get just 2 or 3 leads.

It’s the same with anything else. If you want to learn boxing, you can sit on the sidelines and observe, but you won’t learn until you get in the ring and especially until you make your first mistake.

You can’t be afraid to make the mistakes. The faster you make them, and the more you make, the more lessons you’ll learn and the better they’ll sink in.

The human mind is incredibly powerful. It can either take you to great heights in life, or it can lead you down the path of despair.

If you understand the principles that govern the mind, you can take control of your mind and have it take you wherever you want to go in life. If you don’t, then your mind will take control of you.

In this video, filmed at a Bonus Day during a Titanium Mastermind in the Bahamas, Drew Innes explains 9 principles of the human mind that you can use to dramatically change your life.

  1. ONE THING AT A TIME

Your mind can only concentrate on one thing at a time. It can’t hold two thoughts concurrently.

At any given time, your mind is either holding a positive or a negative thought. This means that your mindset is either going in a positive or a negative direction. It has no ability to tread water.

The more you think about something, the more you bring it about. Knowing this, whenever a negative thought enters your mind, expel it before it gets out of control.

  1. IT’S NOT WHAT YOU SAY

What people say to you is not important. It’s what their words cause you to think that influences your actions.

This is important if you want to influence people through sales or copywriting. The words themselves do not determine the effect. The thoughts that come about in the person reading or hearing them are what determine the effect.

  1. THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

The subconscious mind is the source of all mental power. Your habits and your attitudes are stored in your subconscious mind, and these are what influence your actions.

  1. THE CONSCIOUS MIND

The subconscious mind moves you to do whatever the conscious mind is picturing. That’s why it’s important to create an environment that’s positive and centered on the way you want to live.

Use a vision board or surround yourself with people you aspire to. Then, these positive thoughts fill your conscious mind until they filter through to your subconscious mind.

  1. PERFORMANCE MATCHES THE SELF IMAGE

Self image and performance are always equal. That means that we always act in line with our self image. If you don’t think of yourself as an entrepreneur, you won’t do the things that an entrepreneur does, and you won’t get the results you want.

  1. THE SELF IMAGE CAN BE CHANGED

The good news is the self image can be changed. It’s the cumulative effect of all your life experiences. The more you surround yourself with the reality you want, the more it will change your self image.

If you don’t do this, there will always be a gap between where you are and the results you want.

  1. THE BALANCED STATE OF BEING

The most harmonious state of being is the state of being the person you are destined to become. When you do the things that person would do, your self image will change. Then, new habits and attitudes will develop and results will happen.

Often, this means stepping outside of your normal environment. Attend events, surround yourself with people you aspire to and experience a different reality.

  1. THE POWER OF REINFORCEMENT

The more you think about something, the more likely it will happen. Reinforce and repeat your thoughts to turn them into reality.

Also, write things down with a pen. It’s far more powerful than making a note on your computer or phone. It will bring your thoughts one step closer to reality.

  1. THE POWER OF VIVID IMAGINATION

Finally, the self image can not tell the difference between what actually happens and what is vividly imagined. If you focus on a thought and create a vivid enough picture of it, you can will it into reality.

Greatness only happens outside of your comfort zone. You already know this.

But stepping out of your comfort zone, by definition, is hard to do. It’s always easier to stay comfortable – to not quit your job, to stay in the shadows, to play it safe.

What causes people to flip the switch and start doing the uncomfortable thing they’ve been putting off for so long? Is it something you can duplicate?

In this video, filmed at the Platinum Mastermind in Curacao, Tom Beal talks about stepping outside your comfort zone.

WHAT ARE YOU NOT DOING THAT YOU COULD BE?

Is there some activity in your business or life that you know you should be doing, and you know you could be doing, but you’re not doing?

Maybe it’s doing your own live events. Would you agree that it’s a good idea to get over the fear of speaking in public?

Maybe it’s increasing your budget on your online ads. Maybe it’s quitting your day job. What’s the one thing that you know will push your business forward, but you’re afraid to do?

THE POWER OF NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCES

Some people are as afraid of speaking in public as they are about death. Maybe it’s because they’ve never experienced death, nor have they experienced speaking in public, and the unfamiliarity is what makes them afraid.

Tom Beal once had a near-death experience. Since feeling what it’s like to be close to death, he no longer fears the things he used to. He steps out of his comfort zone much more readily than he used to. He walks boldly and is determined to be the best version of himself.

Are you ready to walk boldly and be the best version of yourself?

TOUCHING PEOPLE’S HEARTS

When Tom Beal was a new entrepreneur, he attended an event. His heart was touched as he sat in the audience and listened to the stories shared on the stage.

After hearing those stories, he started changing his behavior. He hoped that one day he might be a speaker, share his own stories and touch other people’s hearts to a point where change occurs in them.

You don’t have to have your own near-death experience to get over your fears and make a change in your life. All you need to do is hear someone else’s inspirational story and recognize that if they can do it, you can do it.
